         Harassment of seniors

No. You are wrong. They have joined the services voluntarily on their own volition for their bread and butter not to talk of serving the nation. The disciplined services function under certain rules and regulations stricter than civilian counterparts as no force on the earth can survive without discipline.

Which of these two systems is really democratic?

In the so called US democracy, anybody can buy a gun, and indulge in random shooting of absolutely innocent unsuspecting bystanders, and of course go to jail or undergo death penalty. In China which the US Government and people consider as a one party dictatorship, the Government has taken a step to prevent innocent people from being stabbed unexpectedly.

Mullaperiyar Dam will burst soon due to under-design

For assessing the safety of Mullaperiyar dam 3 goals of public safety must be satisfied as per the modern state-of-art used for design of the dams. The first goal is based on the geological foundations, seismic potential and seismicity of the area. The second goal pertains to structural safety of the dam based on maximum credible earthquake including hydrological safety and spillway design flood.

         ‘Our children want non veg’

The Upanishads say that yatho anna thatho mana: what you eat that your mind will be. Lion is a lion and tiger is a tiger because of their food also. The blood oozing flesh. Professor Vin berg has conducted a series of studies on the behavioral aspects of the above animals when they were fed with vegetarian food.

         Comment on Koodankulam power plant

I cannot understand from this article what is the alternative of Nuclear power to meet the energy demand of 130 core Indians. It is very easy to protest every thing and close. Some medias are very much interested to protest each and every thing and always supporting anti-development elements without suggesting any alternative solutions on their article. Our nuclear scientists are having more knowledge on this nuclear issue than the editor of this article.

Response to “The Appeal" of Jayalalithaa

The “Mullai Periyaar Dam”, as it is known to you and as “Mullaperiyaar” to us was commissioned in 1895 and has been greening acres of land in Tamil Nadu since then. Located completely inside the boundaries of Kerala, the dam and its associated properties are under the Govt of Tamil Nadu ever since independence.

What will happen to Kerala and South India if Mullaperiyar Dam breaks?

Under water sea cable for internet connectivity connects India to rest of the world , thats only in Cochin. If Cochin Goes Down, South Indian IT Hub will come to a stand still. All the gateway CISCO routers , switches etc in Kakkanad will float in Arabian Ocean. IP packets from Bangalore, Chennai etc will not cross the ocea.........n.......

It is shameful that the PM addresses issues...

It is shameful that the PM address issues affecting industries owned by rich or famous and had little or nothing to say about inflation, interest rates or oil prices affecting the common man. While he expresses concern on inflation he actually acts on airline Industry with urgency !. On oil prices PM took less than a minute to decide that it cannot be rolled back. PM seems to have become anti-common man (does not seen to be working in the interest if the people), export has fallen by double digi

A battle we must not lose

Forget Anna Hazare. The Jan Lokpal movement can go to hell for all I care. Let us just look at the issues over which the battle between the government and our citizens is being fought. And then let’s decide where we want to stand, each one of us, on the issue of corruption.

         Are we silent sufferers?

Recently I happened to meet an American client in Technopark. I was talking to her in the cafeteria and in the mean time we had a chat bout both the countries. I wanted to have a contrast with each other. While talking I got a fantastic appreciation from her for being an INDIAN. Now if you say its coz of the merits here you people are wrong. she said in USA if U don’t get water for one day people would file case in the court against the authority...if your neighbours dog barks loudly they will

Leave extension request for working abroad

I am a state govt employee (Tehnical Education Dept)working in Saudi Arabia on leave without allowances. Many employees like me are facing a problem now that the government is not approving any leave extension request for working abroad.

Report on Kodiatur teachers’ efforts on agriculture lauded

The special report about the Kodiathur teachers' efforts to bring back the agriculture in the barren fields as well as success of Kattampallil paddy and fish project have brought immense pleasure to read in today’s (Sept 12, 2011) Kerala Kaumudi daily. Since our people are reluctant to touch the soil now adays and finding it an uncultured job, our ancient glory of producing our food has become a thing of the past. Now we are looking towards north for the trucks carrying food materials and our

Pentecosts not against doctors & medicine

This is in response to the news published on 21st July regarding the death of an old lady in Koothattukulam, who refused to take medicine on the basis of belief and eventually died. You highlighted this incident also against PENTECOSTAL community as you did in Sheeba’s (Pallippad) murder case.

         Personalised Ayurvedic interventions

Personalised Ayurvedic interventions have demonstrated clinically significant improvement in rheumatoid arthritis on a par with allopathy treatment with the added advantage of lesser side-effects, according to a study. The study was conducted by the University of Washington, Seattle, and the University of Los Angeles, California, with funding from the National Institutes of Health in the U.S. and the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), Coimbatore.

Glorious Past of India revealed at Thiruvananthapuram

I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber that I do not think we would ever conquer this country unless we break the verify backbone of this nations which is her spiritual and cultural heritage”. This is part of Lord Macaulay’s address to the British parliament in February 1835. If we get a glimpse of that majestic past at the

The Treasure in Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple

Oh! Padmanabha, you rest on treasure whose value is beyond measure; the self-less devotion of hearts so pure Is all that you ever seem to care!

Treasure at Sree Padmanabha Swami temple

Currently the centuries old treasure chambers at the above temple are being opened and treasure evaluated by a Commission ordered by the honourable Supreme Court of India. To-day local news papers say that these consist of antique jewellery, gold, Silver and Diamonds and other precious stones in unmounted state.

         Money power breeds mediocrity

When the V P Singh government implemented the Mandal Commission Report in 1990, one of the issues harped by the opponents was that merit would be sacrificed and mediocrity would ushered in. Today, seeing the way candidates are selected to the professional colleges, I wonder where the proponents of merit are today. I just don’t know how to describe the whole farce that is being enacted in the name of education. What we see is a blatant mockery of academic institutions and everything that is con

         Brutality of Police

It is time certain reforms are introduced in the way the police behaves in the midst of an agitation. We see the police indulging in wanton and unnecessary violence against the agitators. We also see the police force mercilessly lashing the agitators who are lying hurt on the ground. Where is the need for three or four policemen to beat a man lying defenselessly on the ground? It is also commonly seen the police lashing at people who are calmly standing by the hurt people on the ground. It

         Expedite Vizhinjam Project

It was the dream of Kerala to expedite the Vizhinjam project. The new chief minister is forced to proclaim “Smart City" and "Kochi Metro" as his highest priority and not Vizhinjam. Do not allow anyone to sabotage the Vizhinjam Project.

The poor have to suffer more

Petrol price hiked and yet another hike in the offing. Lower middle class and lower class are to be the most adversely affected. Ruling class has the government to look after their expenses. Government employees have their TA and DA enhanced to meet extra expenses.

Guru’s message of peace and love

As a devotee of NavaJyothi Sree Karunakara Guru of Santhigiri Ashram, India and as a world citizen, let me thank you on behalf of the devotees, well-wishers and others, from the bottom of my heart for having published a very nice and crisply presented article on ‘Parnasala, Sahakarana Mandiram and Prayer Hall’.

Intentional public nuisance with high intensity loudspeakers

This is regarding intentional public nuisance (torture) committed by anti-social gangs by arranging petty programs on public road side in the shield of festivals/worship.

         Commons are with ‘Anna’

Anna Hazare, the gandhian from Maharashtra has shum the might of satyagraha in the fight against corrupt politician-babus nexus. It is not surprising that political leaders and the so called opinion makers and PR persons are mum in this issue.

Victory will bring problems to both fronts

Irrespective of the uncertainty factor looming large over whether it is the UDF or the LDF which will win this Assembly elections, one is disheartened to note that the scenario is very dismal this time. The next government will prove to be a very tragic experience for the people of Kerala from the perspective of a practical analysis.

Culture of agriculture is the remedy

Your editorial on the importance of agriculture is a welcome step. Two weeks ago in a similar letter had suggested some measures for inculcating a culture of agriculture in the minds of people. In this regard I had personally written to Oommen Chandy for the need of converting the large quantity of paddy fields lying right in front of the famous Puthuppally church.
