       Poet Prabha Varma is the chief guest at KALA annual

Eminent Poet Prabha Varma is the chief guest at KALA annual day to be held at Berkhamsted School,Centenary theatre Kings Roa, Berkhamsted, HP4 3BG  on Saturday 28th October from 2.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

This years KALA Puraskaram is awarded to Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboodiri theacclaimed Kathakali artistwho  present the chuvanna thaadi vesham (red bearded character).

KALA continues its tradition of bringing to life a selection of productions based on Kerala’s cultural heritage and art forms.

Nelliyode Vasudevan Namboodiri will entertain KALA audience with a maestro’s performance from “Narakasura Vadham”.

KALA’s dancers will present a choreographed visualisation of selected poems by Prabha Varma, followed by a “Face to Face” with the poet.

“Pazhayoru Pattu”, a dance drama based on late Professor ONV Kurup’s poem will be presented by KALA.

Dinner and a number of other performances will be followed by a Ganamela.

Prabha Varmais a torch-bearer for the present generation of Malayalam poets. He is also a lyricist, newspaper editor and television news editor and presenter. He has won numerous literary awards including the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award and Asan Poetry Prize. Twice in the past decade, Prabha Varma won the Kerala State Film Award for best lyrics. Prabha Varma has published nine collections of poems including Souparnika, Arkkapoornima, Chandana nashi and Aardram.

Kathakali Maestro

Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboodiriis widely acclaimed as the most talented of Kathakali artistes to present the chuvanna thaadi vesham (red bearded character). Jaraasandhan, Bali, Sugreevan, Dushaasanan, Nakrathundi and Shoorpanaka are among his favourite characters. Whatever character he performs, Vasudevan Namboodiri has the genius to leave a mark of his own in each one of them. He is a winner of Kendra Sangeeta Natak Akademi Award and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award.
