KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Police Officers’ Association (KPOA) has appealed to the District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) to conduct an internal inquiry into the suicide of Additional Sub Inspector P P Ramakrishnan at the Chevayur police station late last month.

The district unit of the association pointed out that the relatives of Ramakrishnan had, in a letter to the Chief Minister, alleged that a senior police officer had a role in the suicide. KPOA sources said the controversy over the death had prompted them to seek a departmental inquiry. It was on August 26 that the ASI, aged 49, was found dead in one of the old rooms of the station. The death came as a shock to many of his colleagues as Ramakrishnan was very much associated with the training and other activities of the city’s Student Police Cadets. His family had alleged that it was the harassment by a senior police officer that led to his suicide.
