The catalogue and online retailer Argos has been fined £1.5m by tax department HMRC for paying workers less than the minimum wage.
Around 37,000 current and former Argos workers are to receive an average of £64 each after paying less than the minimum wage.
Argos was bought by Sainsbury’s last year. However, Argos will only pay the tax authority £800,000 because it has been awarded a discount on the fine for agreeing to pay within limited time.
