Before the forum in Switzerland, Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam will also make a working visit to the United Kingdom. . SINGAPORE: The Republic's Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will speak at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland later this month, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Saturday (Jan 16). DPM Tharman, who is also Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, will speak at WEF sessions relating to the future of jobs and skills; challenges to retirement systems; the international monetary and financial system; ASEAN; and the future for global manufacturing, said MFA. He will also meet with several industry leaders at the forum, which serves as a platform for leaders in government, industry and academia to engage in discussions and collaborative activities that address global challenges. MFA also announced that prior to the WEF, DPM Tharman will be in London to meet Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer and First Secretary of State George Osborne; Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sajid Javid; Minister of State for Pensions Baroness Ros Altmann; and Bank of England Governor Mark Carney. DPM Tharman is also due to visit Entrepreneur First, a successful startup and talent investor in the UK, and will additionally speak at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, also known as Chatham House. On both trips, DPM Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and MFA. - CNA/jo
