USA: Director of the Center for Conservation Research, Mississippi, Dr Girish Kumar Panicker was recently appointed as the chairman of the division of agriculture of Mississippi Academy of Sciences.
An internationally renowned agricultural scientist, Dr Girish Panicker is currently a member of the Science Advisory Board of the Organic Center, Washington, DC., Board of Directors of Mississippi Sustainable Agriculture Network, and International Women’s Think Tank. He is the recipient of the Pride of India 2011 Award and has been inducted into Hall of Fame for Agriculture. His federally funded research center has the world’s largest C-factor (cover and management) data bank on horticultural crops, with work done on 37 crops at an investment of more than $7 million. The information generated addresses erosion prediction, nutrient management, and conservation planning as well as prevention of soil erosion and climate change.
A pioneer in advanced organic agricultural research, Dr. Panicker has represented the US several times at international conferences abroad and is providing free consultancy services to research organizations and universities in many countries. Panicker’s research collaborators include Agricultural Universities, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Army. Late Sukumara Panicker and Pankajam Panicker of Thiruvananthapuram are his parents. Late Kozhencherry V K Padmanabhan’s daughter Rani (state university) is his wife, and his daughter Gem is a student of the University of Mississippi.
